| 65th Commemoration of Fallen Polish Airmen at the Polish Air Force Memorial in London The Polish Air Force Memorial Committee (PAFMC) will hold the annual and 65th Commemoration of Fallen Polish Airmen on Saturday, 29th August 2025, at 11.00, at the Polish Air Force Memorial, South Ruislip. The ceremony will be conducted in English and Polish and everyone is welcome. It will be streamed live on the PAFMC’s Facebook page here. https://www.facebook.com/PAFMemorialCommittee The ceremony will open with the marching in of the replica Polish Air Force Standard by Officer Cadets from the Polish Air Force University, Dęblin and the Silk Ensign of the RAF. PAFMC Chairman Krzysztof de Berg will follow with an opening address. This will be followed by the Polish Roll-Call of the Fallen, carried out by the Polish Air Force Officer Cadets. After prayers in Polish the invited dignitaries will lay wreaths on the Memorial to be followed by the last remaining veteran and descendants of the Polish Squadrons and Units commemorated on the Memorial that flew alongside the RAF from 1940 to 1945. Concluding Prayers will be led by the Chaplain of RAF Northolt, followed by the Last Post and a minute’s silence ending with Reveille. The ceremony will end with the Polish and UK national anthems and the playing of ‘White Roses’. Personal wreaths will be laid after the ceremony ends. Music will be provided by musicians of the RAF Central Band with the kind permission of the Air Force Board of the Defence Council. Local residents are welcome to attend |
Association representatives held a constructive meeting with ward councillors Cllrs Eddie Lavery and Jane Palmer on 30 July to discuss the recent Greater London Authority (GLA) proposal for development around Ickenham. LBH’s position on the matter has been made clear in a recent press release: Council challenges Mayor’s plan over significant threat to Hillingdon’s green belt | Hillingdon Council
We very much support the Council’s position and look forward to further engagement on the subject over the coming months. As with our stance on HS2, we remain opposed in principle, but should further development proposals come forward at the “east of Ickenham” or “west Ruislip” locations identified in the GLA’s emerging London Plan, we will engage positively in any formal or informal processes; seeking to maximise mitigation, public engagement and public benefit.
We have asked the Council to, as soon as possible, make available further information about development opportunities in the borough, through the Hillingdon local plan preparation process, so it is clear how much brownfield land is available for development locally.
We have also suggested that a public meeting be held in September, to allow local people to discuss the current situation and hear more about next steps, before the current London Plan consultation closes on 15 October. Further details will be made available soon.
We will also make representations to the GLA, including requesting information on what background work has been carried out to understand the current nature and amenity value of the Marshes, and the flood risk and access challenges that would need to be overcome for any development to take place.

We intend to write to the relevant local land agents to request that permissive public access to the fields is maintained. This has, for decades, provided positive health and well-being benefits for local people and important natural surveillance to reduce antisocial behavior.
