Hillingdon’s parking consultation closes on Wednesday   “Which parking consultation?!”, you might well ask: the Council has published 117 pages of legal notices, draft traffic orders and maps of yellow lines, and doesn’t ask a single question – and they haven’t tried very hard at all to let you know that it even exists.
In September the Cabinet Member approved a consultation on five changes.  https://hillingdondocs.uk/decisions/2026/q3/1805-parking-consultation.html Two of them, asking every driver for their number plate and removing ticket machines, aren’t mentioned anywhere in it.

Council officers told us machine removal will be consulted on later. Two of Ruislip’s councillors told us it’s part of this consultation, and to mention the Lido in our responses. Even the people running it don’t agree on what it covers.

The Council says it publicised the consultation with notices in two newspapers, notices at what it calls “relevant locations”, and one webpage. We can’t find it on the Council’s “Consultations and Surveys” page, on its news pages or on its social media.

We haven’t seen a single councillor mention it publicly.

The decision that started it all is dated 30 September. It appeared on the Council’s website on 22 October, three weeks later and only after we asked where it was. By then the deadline for councillors to call it in had passed.

The documents themselves weren’t the latest versions. The Council told us on Friday afternoon that the corrected versions had only just been sent to its web team.

STILL NOT DECIDED OR WRITTEN:
• the rules for the new digital version of the Hillingdon First card for parking
• how residents would prove they’re eligible, and what happens if you don’t have a smartphone
• which ticket machines would be removed
• what counts as a “nearby” shop
• whether paying cash in a shop would get you the resident rate
• what happens at Ruislip Lido
• what would be done with your number plate details, and how any cameras would be used
  WHAT HAS BEEN DECIDED:
Paying at a ticket machine, even by card, would no longer get you the discounted resident rate or the free half hour.
So we’re being consulted on a scheme whose rules haven’t been written, through a consultation that asks no questions and that most people don’t know exists.
You can still have your say, and it takes a few minutes. The Ruislip Residents’ Association’s webpage explains it in plain English, lets you pick the points that matter to you, and sends your response to the Council in your own words: https://www.ruislipresidents.org.uk/parking-consultation-respond/
The deadline is Wednesday 11 November. Please share this with anyone who uses a Hillingdon First card, especially anyone who doesn’t do apps.     Article: PayByPhone-only free half hour and resident discounts, and fewer ticket machines: Hillingdon parking consultation closes on Wednesday https://www.ruislipresidents.org.uk/parking-consultation-answers/   Form: Have your say on Hillingdon’s parking plans: respond to the consultation by Wednesday 11 November https://www.ruislipresidents.org.uk/parking-consultation-respond/
