Thank you

From Ickenham Residents’ Association

Thank you to all of you who came to our exhibition on Satturday and thank you for all the positive feedback we received.
Our special thanks go to Barbara Buckle for all her hard work putting it all together, to Kasia (Kasia Bakes Best) for the delicious cake. and
to our deputy mayor Philip Corthorne for coming along and for his kind words.
We will have a stand in Milton Court on Saturday 15th. So, for those of you who would still like a copy of our centenary booklet, these will be available then.
Hoping to see lots of you on the 15th.

  1. I very much enjoyed the huge amount of historical information you brought together and displayed in the village hall on Saturday.

    Thank you and many congratulations

I spoke to Barbara about the aerial photo of Hoylake Crescent in construction ( we live at 39 ) which we acquired from a neighbour years ago – thought to be taken in the 1930s – was there a pre-war shortage of building materials that caused a delay in completing the crescent ?

Copthall Road East occupies the centre of the photo – Wallasey Rd to the left finishes abruptly – Swakeleys Road in the foreground is overshadowed by trees with no houses on the south side ? No sign of Breakspear school yet – nor the west run of Hoylake Crescent – Woodland Close shows clearly with the woods behind still there – the huge oak tree currently behind our house is quite small in the photo – no cricket club ? The embankment of the Chiltern Line at the top doesn’t seem as high as it is now ? A very old lady who used to walk a Labrador once told me that the white cottage right on the top edge of the photo burnt down ( would have been on the golf club hole 2 – now HS2 desolation ! )

I spoke to Dave Edglinton after his interesting talk on Saturday evening about the photo, so please do show it to him when he is less busy.

    Thank you again

    Stuart and Jeni Morgan
