This Thursday: influence Colne Valley viaduct plans
March 22, 2pm to 8pm in ICKENHAM VILLAGE HALL
The Colne Valley is an important recreational area for local residents. It’s our ‘back garden’ The HS2 route runs through Ickenham, Harefield and then across the valley.
This Association with local groups, the London Borough of Hillingdon and local politicians campaigned for the ‘Ruislip’ tunnel to be extended to the Chiltern tunnel to save Ickenham, Harefield and the Colne Valley from both damaging construction activity and the environmental issues when the trains are running. The government refused.
A 3.9 km viaduct has to be built across the Colne Valley lakes and rivers. HS2 commissioned a design for this viaduct and ALIGN (a construction company) has been contracted to build the viaduct.
This event run by the ALIGN team is an opportunity for you to find out more about the emerging design of the Colne Valley Viaduct and landscapes at an early stage, as well as what it may mean for the local area.
We recommend go if you can; it’s an opportunity for local communities to input to the final designs.
The event will not cover HOAC plans or the construction plans for Ickenham and the Ruislip tunnel. These will be covered at future events.
Breakspear Road South: Update
As you will have realised, the previous announcement from HS2 proved to be incorrect. We now have an update on the temporary traffic lights. Work starts on Monday 12th March.
The link is https://hs2inhillingdon.commonplace.is/news/2018/03/09/update-on-lane-closure-on-breakspear-road-south
This is at the heart of the message:
A northbound lane closure would be required during March on Breakspear Road South to enable the set-up of a construction compound. These works are set to commence on Monday 12th March for a period of up to three weeks. Two way traffic lights will be utilised to ensure that traffic flow is maintained in the area. The traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day but will be manually operated at peak times (07:00 – 10:00 and 15:00 – 18:00) to enable disruption to be minimised and alleviate pressure on the network.
Characters of Ickenham – slide show
Hello. Well that was a great Festive Evening. Thank you Ickenham Festival and all the people who put so much time and effort into making it so enjoyable. And thank you all the visitors for braving the chilly weather to participate in this great community event.
As promised, the video of the winners of the Characters of Ickenham poll is now online.
Enjoy!
Village Festive Evening tonight
It’s going to be dry tonight, whoopee! Good news for all the street activities in Ickenham village centre. Wrap up warm and come and enjoy an evening (6 to 9) of “music, activities, fun and shopping”, according to Ickenham Festival which makes the whole thing happen.
We’ll be in the Village Hall meeting old and new friends, running the traditional ‘sweets in the jar’ competition, selling copies of Yesterday in Ickenham and displaying images of the winners of the ‘Characters of Ickenham’ contest run earlier in the year.

We look forward to seeing you there.
(And, if you miss it, we’ll be uploading the slideshow here tomorrow morning.)
HS2 Beacons
Beacons to Light HS2 Route Again
On Saturday 21st October, the route of HS2 will once again be lit up by beacons as communities come together to oppose the proposal. In a repeat of the show of unity from communities up and down Phase 1 in 2011, communities along Phase 2 are being encouraged to light bonfires as beacons all the way down the line of HS2.
The event has been organised by former Stop HS2 Chair Lizzy Williams on Facebook, and hopes that anyone opposing HS2 can join in wherever they are in the country if they wish to show people enough is enough. In places where beacons and bonfires would not be possible, candlelit vigils can be held and are very useful in raising awareness of HS2 and the destruction it will bring.
Anyone organising their own event should take full responsibility for risk assessment and health and safety including insurance if required and of course locations to be used must have permission from the landowners, and to be safe the fire brigade should be notified in advance.
The purpose of the event is to make a highly visible national event against HS2 and to attract as much media coverage as possible. It is also to encourage a spirit of solidarity amongst action groups.
More information can be found on the Facebook Event Page.
Sadly there is no where to use in Ickenham but we understand there will be one in Denham
The Harvil Road protest against HS2
The Green Party and fellow activists are protesting about HS2 ripping out trees in Harefield. Five of them have spent the night under a digger, to prevent further damage and an eventual environmental catastrophe for Harefield and surrounding areas.
While the Ickenham Residents’ Association avoids political positioning, we feel that this ongoing story may interest many of our members. To keep track of what’s going on please check in with Get West London.
