HS2 Works Notification: Utility works on A40 Western Avenue

To ensure the safety of the public and our staff, temporary changes will be in place on the A40 Western Avenue, as we carry out these works.

Moorhall Road – Now Reopen following 3 Week Road Closure

HS2/Align have now completed the works to bring the Colne Valley Viaduct over Moorhall Road which required the recent Road Closure for 3 weeks. There is good news that the works were completed ahead of schedule, with the road reopening to traffic from 6pm yesterday (17/08), and better news still that as the works have progressed at a much faster pace than forecast, the scheduled Night Time Road Closures of Moorhall Road for this coming week have now been cancelled.

There is now a Narrow Lanes Setup on Moorhall Road which had been in place prior to the Full Road Closure since April 2023, and will now be in place until the end of October 2023 when all Traffic Management will then be removed during a Night Time Road Closure of Moorhall Road on the 27/10 from midnight to 5am

Conveyor update and BRS closures

FROM HS2

Main Conveyor Update
The Main Conveyor which will carry the Spoil from the 2 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to the Treatment Area off Harvil Road has recently successfully completed testing, and the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers have now been installed along the whole length of the Conveyor between West Ruislip and the Treatment Area off Harvil Road.

The Main Conveyor has now begun operating 24 hours a day, but at present the 24/7 running of the Main Conveyor is dependent on the amount of Material/Spoil generated by the TBMs, so in the short-term the 24/7 requirement might not be needed at all times.

The Conveyor will transport the Spoil from the TBMs over The River Pinn and Breakspear Road South, and then across the Chiltern Line into the Treatment Works off Harvil Road for distribution onto the Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA).

This will also lead to the phasing out of use of the Temporary Conveyor over the next month which in turn should end the requirement of the moving of Materials via lorry from the TBMs to the storage areas within the HS2 Sites (which has been happening up to 24 hours a day over the past few months).

Breakspear Road South Night Time Closures 29/08 for 5 Nights
HS2/SCS have requested Night Time Road Closures of Breakspear Road South for 5 Nights from Tue 29/08 to carry out the removal of the Bridge Deck Edge Protection attached to both sides of the newly built HS2 Bridge. The Road will be closed each night from 10pm until 5am the following morning from the Chiltern Bridge to the HS2 Bridge. Details below:

Traffic Management:

  • Night Time Road Closures of Breakspear Road South over 5 Nights (between 10pm & 5am)
  • Road Closed from Chiltern Bridge to HS2 Bridge
  • Diversion Route via Swakeleys Road, Ickenham Road, Ruislip High Street, Breakspear Road (as shown on Map below)

Requested Dates:
Tue 29/08 at 10pm to Wed 30/08 at 5am
Wed 30/08 at 10pm to Thu 31/08 at 5am
Thu 31/08 at 10pm to Fri 01/09 at 5am
Fri 01/09 at 10pm to Sat 02/09 at 5am
Sat 02/09 at 10pm to Sun 03/09 at 5am

Activities:

  • Carry out the removal of the Bridge Deck Edge Protection attached to both sides of the newly built HS2 Bridge
  • Once this piece of work is complete, the new Bridge over Breakspear Road South is complete from a construction perspective

Conveyor and Footpath update

Main Conveyor Update

The Main Conveyor which will carry the Spoil from the 2 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to the Treatment Area off Harvil Road has recently been undergoing testing during Core Hours. The testing has been carried out without the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers that will insulate the Conveyor’s Mechanical Noise (in order to test that the Conveyor is running smoothly and is correctly aligned). Further testing has been happening with and without materials on the Conveyor and with the testing proving successful the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers will now be installed along the whole length of the Conveyor between West Ruislip and the Treatment Area off Harvil Road.

Once the metal covers are installed, the testing phase will be complete and the Conveyor will begin operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week in line with the TBM operations.

The aim is now for the Main Conveyor to begin operating 24 hours a day from late next week (possibly from 27/07 – to be confirmed).

The Conveyor will transport the Spoil from the TBMs over The River Pinn and Breakspear Road South, and then across the Chiltern Line into the Treatment Works off Harvil Road for distribution onto the Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA). This will also lead to the end of the requirement for moving of Materials via lorry from the TBMs to storage areas within the HS2 Sites, and the phasing out of use of the Temporary Conveyor over the next few weeks.

New Footpath Surface Connecting The Greenway to The Celandine Route (near Breakspear Rd South/River Pinn)

There is now a newly Surfaced Footpath to connect The Greenway to The Celandine Route (near Breakspear Rd South/River Pinn) that has been completed by LBH Highways Contractors through Funding provided by the HS2 Local Amenity Fund.

There is also a connection from Hoylake Crescent to join up with the footpath

The Greenway works

Got an allotment or live in the Greenway. Did you get this letter from Thames Water?

Thank you

Dear Resident,

We have completed the sewer diversion

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carried out the diversion to our sewer to enable HS2’s construction.

We can confirm the diversion has been completed and we have now left the area. The haul road has been removed and the land has been reinstated with new trees and shrubs being planted. The reinstatement of the Ickenham Green Allotments has also been completed.

We will be returning to the area to water the grass on The Green and the saplings in the surrounding area on a regular basis. Barhale will be responsible to look after the area for 12 months and then Thames Water will take over for the next two years. After this time the land will be handed back to London Borough of Hillingdon.

Thank you again.

Kind Regards

Laura Edwards

Greenway/High Road works

The Greenway – Sewer Decommissioning 13/05 to 17/05
Barhale working on behalf of Thames Water are returning to The Greenway for the final time to complete the decommissioning of the Sewer by filling it with concrete. The works will take place between Saturday 13/05 and Wednesday 17/05 and the Traffic Management will entail narrowing the width of the carriageway around the working area outside House Number 43 with Give Way Signage in place, but traffic flow will be maintained throughout the works.

Thames Water update
We are sorry for the delay in completing our work in the manhole on The Greenway. Our final piece of work outside no 43 will now start on Saturday 13 May, when we will put traffic management in place. The vehicle carrying concrete will again need to reverse up part of the road and will have two banksmen directing it at all times, it will give way to other vehicles. We will also be using a pump and be pouring more concrete into the manhole, the same as we did in March.

On Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 May, we will be carrying out the reinstatement of the area. We will be onsite between Saturday 13 May to Wednesday 17 May
Working hours Saturday 8am – 1pm Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 5.30pm

The road will remain open at all times, but as before it will be reduced to one lane for a short distance– give way signs will be in place. On road parking will be restricted in the immediate area but residents will be able to access their driveways at all times.
Footpaths on both sides of the road will remain open.
We will complete our work on Wednesday 17 May.

Greenway Sewer – Bellmouth Removal
Barhale working on behalf of Thames Water built a Bellmouth entrance off Ickenham Road by the Soldiers Return Pub in Dec 2021 to facilitate the Greenway Sewer works.
Barhale have now submitted a Permit to LBH to remove the Bellmouth between 24/04 & 12/05. LBH have approved the Permit, and the works are ongoing and should be complete by 12/05.

During the reinstatement of the area back to what was previously in place prior to these works, a Planter that was in place on the Footway will now be replaced by a Tree (at the request of the LBH Green Spaces Team). The remaining Kerb Line will be reinstated as previous, with new paving and tarmac also being installed.

The Traffic Management in place during these works is a Partial Footway Closure & Narrowing of the Lanes of both sides of the carriageway around the working area, but 3.5 metre width is being maintained in both Lanes so there is not expected to be any impact to traffic flow in this area.
