Concrete removal at Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA) Site – Mon 19/08 to Sat 24/08
HS2/SCS will be removing a section of the concrete lining around one of the Attenuation Ponds within the Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA) Site beside Breakspear Road South during Core Working Hours Mon 19/08 to Sat 24/08.
The removal of the concrete will enable access to complete the placement of soil at one of the mounds on the SSPA. The Pond will remain in place to support with water management on site.
Harvil Road & Skip Lane Snagging Works – at Night (between 7pm to 5am) from Mon 26/08 until Mon 02/09
LBH have agreed to a request from HS2/SCS for some Night Time Traffic Management (mostly 2-Way Traffic Lights) on Harvil Rd and a Night Time Road Closure of Skip Lane from Mon 26/08 until Mon 02/09 for some snagging works (raising of the manhole covers, sealant works on the parapets on the new bridge, and installation of bollards on Skip Lane).
The requested working hours are between 7pm and 5am so the Traffic Management will be removed during each day.
Schedule below:
Mon 26/08 – 7pm to 5am – Tue 27/08
Tue 27/08 – 7pm to 5am – Wed 28/08
Wed 28/08 – 7pm to 5am – Thur 29/08
Thur 29/08 – 7pm to 5am – Fri 30/08
Fri 30/08 – 7pm to 5am – Sat 31/08
Sat 31/08– 7pm to 5am – Sun 01/09
Sun 01/09 – 7pm to 5am – Mon 02/09
The Traffic Management has multiple phases (similar to what was used in June at this same location) and SCS will complete 1 phase before changing the Traffic Management to the following phase (hence not being tied to definite dates for the phases).
LBH did not receive any Complaints last time this Traffic Management was used and as it is at night it should cause minimal impacts. This would also be done during the last week of the school holidays which would mean 4 lots of HS2 works completed on Harvil, Breakspear Road South & Moorhall over the summer break when the roads are quieter.
Please note that there would be daytime works on Breakspear Road South (Traffic Lights 8am to 6pm – see next item below) and Night works on Harvil Rd that same week (Traffic Lights 7pm to 5am). This has been cleared by the LBH Network Operations Manager but with the caveat that should there be any overrun to either works that there would not be a scenario that meant there was Traffic Lights on both Breakspear Road South and Harvil Rd at the same time.
Proposed (yet to be confirmed) Breakspear Road South junction Fine Bush Lane 3-Way Traffic Lights (Tue 27/08 to Sun 01/09 – Daytime only 8am to 6pm)
Please note that these works were proposed to be carried by HS2/SCS during the w/c 02/09 which LBH do not agree with as it is the first week of the new School Year. Instead LBH have offered HS2/SCS the opportunity to carry out these works during the last week of the School Holiday to maximise the HS2 works during this period and to take advantage of the quieter roads. We will know next week if these will be going ahead or not.
Details – HS2/SCS have requested 3-Way Traffic Lights at the junction of Breakspear Rd South and Fine Bush Lane from Tue 27/08 to Sun 01/09 with the Traffic Lights operational between 8am to 6pm.
These are to carry out works to clear the existing Culvert and connect the HDPE pipe into the Culvert, which HS2/SCS would like to complete whilst the weather is relatively dry and prior to it turning for Autumn. This is part of the permanent drainage for the Northern Sustainable Placement Area (NSPA) located in the fields between Newyears Green Lane and Breakspear Rd South.
LBH have provided a Traffic Management Plan which shows 3-Way Traffic Lights which would be operational during the day (Core Hours 8am to 6pm) so the Traffic Management could be pushed to the side of the road outside of these hours to allow increased traffic flow.
This would mean that there would be daytime works on Breakspear Road South (Traffic Lights 8am to 6pm) and Night works on Harvil Rd that same week (Traffic Lights 7pm to 5am). This has been cleared by the LBH Network Operations Manager but with the caveat that should there be any overrun to either works that there would not be a scenario that meant there was Traffic Lights on both Breakspear Road South and Harvil Rd at the same time.
With deliveries of TBM Segments by Railway having now resumed and with both TBMs having recently been stopped for maintenance at the Mandeville Road Vent Shaft there is now a full Segment Yard at West Ruislip.
While the current agreement to allow TBM Segments by lorry has now expired since 31/07 at present HS2/SCS are happy to continue operations with only the TBM Segments being delivered by Railway.
This means until further notice there should be no further TBM Segments by lorry into West Ruislip but this situation will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

HS2 updates
From HS2
Upcoming – Breakspear Rd South – Road Closure under Railway Bridge for Culvert Trial Holes – Mon 29/07 to Sun 11/08
SCS Mini ‘Pop-Up’ Event in Ickenham 19/07 between 10am and 12pm
SCS Community Event in Ickenham Tue 23/07 between 4pm and 7pm
Extended Hours TBM Segment deliveries by Lorry into West Ruislip Portal – until 31/07
SCS Noise Barrier Testing near Breakspear Road South – June to October 2024
Extended Working Hours at Breakspear Rd South Site for Construction of Retained Embankments – June to Dec 2024
Upcoming – Breakspear Rd South – Road Closure under Railway Bridge for Culvert Trial Holes – Mon 29/07 to Sun 11/08
There has now been a change to the methodology of these works which require HS2/SCS to carry out further Trial Holes in order to finalise their design to replace the Culvert that crosses Breakspear Road South near to the Chiltern Line Bridge.
This means that there will still be the 2 Week Road Closure between 29/07 to 11/08 but this will be to excavate further Trial Holes (rather than replacing the Culvert). Once HS2/SCS are confident on their designs they will present them to LBH to agree a further Road Closure in order to install the replacement Culvert. This means that there will have to be not 1 but 2 Road Closures of Breakspear Road South in order to replace this Culvert which is not good news for residents nor those who use this busy road.
LBH will push for the final Road Closure to be carried out at a quieter time so it is likely that the final Road Closure will coincide with School Holidays (with the anticipated length of the final Road Closure also being 2 weeks).
At present the existing Culvert near the Chiltern Line Bridge does not have the required capacity to take away water run off from the road and as a consequence this area of road is susceptible to flood related issues. The installation of a new Culvert will be able to handle a larger volume of water and should therefore lead to less of a threat of flooding in this area.
Programme of works:
• Mon 29/07 to Sun 11/08 – Full Road Closure for excavating of Trial Holes (2 Weeks during School Summer Holidays)
• TBA – Full Road Closure for Culvert replacement works (2 weeks possibly later in 2024)
SCS Mini ‘Pop-Up’ Event in Ickenham 19/07 between 10am and 12pm
• HS2 SCS will be holding a ‘Pop-Up’ Event at (omitted from notification)
• This mini Event is for residents to come along and discuss Logistics with the SCS Logistics and Engagement Team and will be an informal relaxed session where residents drop by and have a 1-2-1 meeting with HS2/SCS staff.
SCS Community Event in Ickenham Tue 23/07 between 4pm and 7pm
HS2 SCS will be holding a Community Event at Ickenham United Reform Church, Swakeleys Rd, Ickenham, UB10 8BE on Tue 23/07 between 4pm and 7pm where their Project Team will discuss the following areas:
• Copthall Tunnel progress
• Tunnelling in Hillingdon
• Our environmental commitments during construction
• Drone Footage of SCS Sites
This is a Drop-In Event so feel free to attend between 4pm and 7pm
Extended Hours TBM Segment deliveries by Lorry into West Ruislip Portal – until 31/07
Deliveries of TBM Segments by Railway have now resumed following the issue with the Rail Siding recently but due to ongoing issues with HS2/SCS securing any more than 5 slots per week to run Train deliveries, HS2/SCS will continue to transport TBM Segments by Lorry into West Ruislip to maintain TBM operations and build up a surplus of TBM Segments in the Segment Yard.
Recently LBH had allowed HS2/SCS to deliver TBM Segments on lorries into West Ruislip Portal over a 24/7 period, but this has now been scaled back to the initial Extended Hours so these TBM Segments on lorries can now be delivered Mon to Sat between 8am and 10pm. This agreement is in place until 31/07 and will be reviewed again at that time.
SCS Noise Barrier Testing near Breakspear Road South – June to October 2024
There will be Noise Barrier testing from late June to the end of October for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within the HS2/SCS Site to the west of the entrance off Breakspear Road South (please note this was originally scheduled to start on 28/05). Noise Barrier Testing commenced on 27/06 with the Generator and Actuator Instrument being used 24/7 to test the piles and the ground around them in the 1st Phase of testing.
A temporary embankment has been constructed in the area where Noise Barriers have been installed and the structural integrity will be tested. The scope of the testing is to confirm that the pile foundation and the structure will not have any significant changes due to Trains passing the Noise Barrier.
The anticipated level of noise impact is expected to be minimal and will include the use of a generator which will power the instrument that will simulate the movement of the trains passing (the generator will be covered in acoustic barriers to minimise the noise).
The Trains using the HS2 Railway will not likely stop at night so the 24/7 testing is critical to simulate actual stress and strain on the Noise Barrier similar to the operational requirements and in reducing the duration of the test. This is fundamental to assuring Noise Barrier compliance.
Extended Working Hours at Breakspear Rd South Site for Construction of Retained Embankments – June to Dec 2024
From 17/06 to 31/12 HS2/SCS will be constructing the 3 Retained Embankments which connect West Ruislip Portal to the Copthall Tunnel. To do this HS2/SCS have been consented extended working hours from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm on Saturdays.
During the construction of the Embankments (that are either side of the River Pinn & Breakspear Rd South HS2 Bridges as shown on the Map below) there is expected to be 10,000 lorry loads of material brought into the Sites from Harvil Rd Gate 2 and across the Internal Haul Roads. Lorries that are unloading on the west side of Breakspear Rd South will exit onto Breakspear Rd South on the HS2 Approved Lorry Route, and lorries unloading on the east side of Breakspear Rd South will continue on the Internal Haul Road to exit at West Ruislip on that HS2 Approved Lorry Route.
HS2/SCS will be building the Embankments to the required height using machinery for delivery and placement of material and the compaction of placed material will be carried out using vibratory rollers.
LBH will be keeping close tabs on the lorry movements and have also not committed to the full duration of the works when signing the consent. At present LBH will keep these works on a trial basis and review them on an ongoing basis.
M25 closure Friday to Monday
When is the M25 section being closed?
The section will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday July 12 to 6am on Monday July 15 between junctions 10 and 11. The first of these intersects with the A3 and junction 11 intersects with the A320.
Two further closures are scheduled for later in the year, although the dates have not yet been disclosed.
Travel advice
National Highways is once again recommending drivers either skip their trip entirely or follow the designated detours.
“Only travel if necessary. We’re grateful to all drivers who avoided previous closures and completed their journeys in other ways. We urge you to do the same again.
“If you do travel, expect delays and please leave a lot of extra time for your journey.”
Diversion route
The diversion route is the same whether you are going from junction 10 to 11 or 11 to 10.
To go from junction 10 to junction 11, motorists are advised to use the northbound A3 to Painshill junction, A245 towards Woking and finally the A320 to junction 11.
To go from junction 11 to junction 10 use the A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction and then the southbound A3 to junction 10.
Jonathan Wade, National Highways senior project manager, said: “The previous two closures have gone well with significant progress being made during both.
“We would urge all drivers to follow the official diversion route as this is the best chance of reaching your destination in good time.
“Please ignore your satnavs and follow our diversion route instead.”
Household recycling survey
| from LBH How does your household recycle? We’ve created a short online survey to help us identify and address barriers that might stop residents from recycling. The results will help us understand how households decide which items to recycle and which to put in their waste bin. Your feedback will also help us shape our services in the future, to increase rates, reduce contamination levels in our weekly collections and reduce overall levels of household waste.
