Piano recitals to aid Ukrainian refugees

Notice of forthcoming Piano Pops 4 Ukraine piano recitals later this month, postponed from November, in The Village Hall, Jordans on 22nd, and Ickenham URC on 29th – both Sunday afternoons, starting at 3:15 pm.

Proceeds will go to the Chalfonts-GX Ukrainian refugee support organisation.

From the artist (David Meacock):
It can be easy to lose the initial impetus of wanting to help in the immediate aftermath of any disaster, particularly when it’s ongoing, but I don’t see Ukrainian refugees in the UK being able to return anytime soon and so they’ll continue to need all manner of support.

I’m hoping most of the encores and transcriptions, including a few of my own such as of The Onedin Line and Deer Hunter themes, will already be well known, but I’m sure any which aren’t will be just as enjoyable – and so suitable for youngsters (5+) who mightn’t have been to a ‘live’ piano concert before. This is the musical equivalent of skipping main course and just having puddings for Dinner, followed by several bars and boxes of chocolate!

Festive fun at the URC

The URC will be making a full contribution to Festive Community Night on Friday 9th December, with a seasonal display in the church, stalls of Christmas decorations and presents, a CLICK Rukiga stand, hot drinks and mince pies in the Oasis coffee shop and a raffle.

There will also be books, mainly our high-end stock and ones with a local or Middlesex connection, such as Morris Hughes’ The Story of Ickenham, which is hard to find these days.

We will be there from 6pm to 9pm and again on Saturday 10th from 10am to 12 Noon for a Coffee Morning with homemade cakes, and the church and the stalls open again.

Admission will be free throughout.

If you have items to donate please bring them to the church on the Friday afternoon between 2pm and 6pm or ring Richard Piper on 01895 634348 for collection.

We look forward to seeing you!

Not the URC Forecourt Sale!

From the URC

Firstly, apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced by the cancellation, out of respect to our late Queen, of the Late Summer Forecourt Sale. This was by definition at short notice and though we tried to spread the word we were not wholly successful, but it was good that one or two people took the opportunity for quiet contemplation in the church. As a replacement we will be holding a sale [entirely indoors!] and coffee morning on Saturday 15th October from 10am to 12 Noon, admission FREE. We will be selling bric-a-brac, books, collectables such as stamps and cigarette cards and pretty well anything else that we already have or which comes in, except clothes or shoes. If you have items to donate please bring them to the church between 2pm and 6pm on Friday 14th October or ring Richard Piper on 01895 634348 for collection. This is also the number for any enquiries or offers of help.

Please also note that we will be holding a sale of Christmas items [probably with some quality books as well!] as part of the Festive Community Night on Friday 9th December, with the sale continuing plus an accompanying coffee morning on Saturday 10th.

Bargains this Saturday (10th Sept) at theURC!

From the URC

The Festival Forecourt Sale went with a bang with lovely weather, a large attendance, a great atmosphere and takings of £932, including some private sales and add-ons. All in all, we felt that we made a useful contribution in helping to launch a successful and enjoyable Festival, as well as raising much-needed cash for our church and charities.

We’re going to give it one more go before the summer disappears, with a Late Summer Forecourt Sale on Saturday 10th September, from 10am to 12 Noon admission FREE. We won’t have our usual large array of plants because of the drought, but we will have some, so gardeners should definitely pay us a visit. What we will have also is bric-a-brac, books, collectables such as stamps and cigarette cards, boxed games and puzzles and pretty well anything else that comes in, except clothes or shoes.

Please have a look round for quality bric-a-brac [can’t get enough of it for our loyal buyer base!] and anything else that you might donate and bring it to the church between 2pm and 6pm on Friday 9th September or ring Richard Piper on 01895 634348 for collection. This is also the number for any enquiries or offers of help and we hope to hear from you!
