| From HS2 In September we told you that we would be carrying out utility works and construction activities to build and finalise the connection sections for the Harvil Road realignment from 9 October to 5 November. We have rearranged these dates and the works will now take place from 23 October to 19 November 2023. The construction activities that need to be completed during the closure include: • Main water connections, including pressure testing • Street lighting & electrical installation • Highway & drainage construction • Resurfacing, white lining and installation of street furniture • Earthworks & fencing installation To carry out the works safely, we will need: • a lane closure from 23 October to 5 November, between the Dogs Trust and our site entrances (gate 2) and, • a road closure from 30 October to 19 November between Certas bellmouth and the Dogs Trust for 24 hours a day for the three week period. For further information please see our works notification. https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/harvil-road-closure-october-2023/ How this work might affect you During the road closure, local access to residential and commercial properties (including the Dogs Trust) will be maintained, however, there will be no through access for emergency services. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Moorhall Road / A412 / A40. The lane closure will be within the school half term holiday from 23 October to 27 October 2023. These works will be carried out in three phases: • Phase 1 – From 23 October to 5 November Northbound lane closure between the Dogs Trust entrance and the Gate 2 site access • Phase 2 – From 30 October to 5 November Road closure between Certas bellmouth and Shorthill Cottage • Phase 3 – From 6 to 19 November Road closure between the Dogs Trust and network bridge north of Skip Lane. We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience the road closure may cause. Every effort is being taken to ensure that these works are carried out in the least impactful way. We expect to have completed the realignment of Harvil Road in autumn this year. |

BRS now has a VAS sign
Following receipt of funding from the HS2 Road Safety Fund and following requests from residents, a Vehicle-Activated Sign (VAS) has now been installed on Breakspear Rd South near to the junction with Swakeleys Rd. If a vehicle approaches the Sign at a speed more than the 30mph Speed Limit on this road, the VAS Sign will illuminate and encourage the driver of the vehicle to ‘SLOW DOWN’.
This is in addition to a number of other VAS Signs that were installed in 2022 on roads in the north of Hillingdon to reinforce the reduction in Speed Limits on several roads in the area (a scheme also paid for from the HS2 Road Safety Fund).

BRS – This weekend
The HS2/SCS works which required Night Time Road Closures of Breakspear Road South for the removal of the Bridge Deck Edge Protection attached to both sides of the newly built HS2 Bridge has now been rearranged and will take place this Saturday 02/09 & Sunday 03/09 with the Road Closed between 10pm to 5am on both nights from the Chiltern Bridge to the HS2 Bridge.
These works were postponed at short notice due to the late submission of the Environmental Consent from HS2/SCS to LBH, but LBH have now agreed to allow these programme critical works to take place this weekend so as not to further delay HS2 operations. The works were originally proposed to take 5 Nights to complete, but the works have now been condensed to be completed over 2 Nights, which is a positive for all parties concerned. Details below:
Traffic Management:
• Night Time Road Closures of Breakspear Road South over 2 Nights – Sat 02/09 & Sun 03/09 (Road Closed 10pm to 5am)
• Road Closed from Chiltern Bridge to HS2 Bridge

There is now a Narrow Lanes Setup on Moorhall Road which had been in place prior to the Full Road Closure since April 2023, and will now be in place until the end of October 2023 when all Traffic Management will then be removed during a Night Time Road Closure of Moorhall Road on the 27/10 from midnight to 5am

Conveyor update and BRS closures
FROM HS2
Main Conveyor Update
The Main Conveyor which will carry the Spoil from the 2 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to the Treatment Area off Harvil Road has recently successfully completed testing, and the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers have now been installed along the whole length of the Conveyor between West Ruislip and the Treatment Area off Harvil Road.
The Main Conveyor has now begun operating 24 hours a day, but at present the 24/7 running of the Main Conveyor is dependent on the amount of Material/Spoil generated by the TBMs, so in the short-term the 24/7 requirement might not be needed at all times.
The Conveyor will transport the Spoil from the TBMs over The River Pinn and Breakspear Road South, and then across the Chiltern Line into the Treatment Works off Harvil Road for distribution onto the Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA).
This will also lead to the phasing out of use of the Temporary Conveyor over the next month which in turn should end the requirement of the moving of Materials via lorry from the TBMs to the storage areas within the HS2 Sites (which has been happening up to 24 hours a day over the past few months).
Breakspear Road South Night Time Closures 29/08 for 5 Nights
HS2/SCS have requested Night Time Road Closures of Breakspear Road South for 5 Nights from Tue 29/08 to carry out the removal of the Bridge Deck Edge Protection attached to both sides of the newly built HS2 Bridge. The Road will be closed each night from 10pm until 5am the following morning from the Chiltern Bridge to the HS2 Bridge. Details below:
Traffic Management:
- Night Time Road Closures of Breakspear Road South over 5 Nights (between 10pm & 5am)
- Road Closed from Chiltern Bridge to HS2 Bridge
- Diversion Route via Swakeleys Road, Ickenham Road, Ruislip High Street, Breakspear Road (as shown on Map below)
Requested Dates:
Tue 29/08 at 10pm to Wed 30/08 at 5am
Wed 30/08 at 10pm to Thu 31/08 at 5am
Thu 31/08 at 10pm to Fri 01/09 at 5am
Fri 01/09 at 10pm to Sat 02/09 at 5am
Sat 02/09 at 10pm to Sun 03/09 at 5am
Activities:
- Carry out the removal of the Bridge Deck Edge Protection attached to both sides of the newly built HS2 Bridge
- Once this piece of work is complete, the new Bridge over Breakspear Road South is complete from a construction perspective
Conveyor and Footpath update
Main Conveyor Update
The Main Conveyor which will carry the Spoil from the 2 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to the Treatment Area off Harvil Road has recently been undergoing testing during Core Hours. The testing has been carried out without the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers that will insulate the Conveyor’s Mechanical Noise (in order to test that the Conveyor is running smoothly and is correctly aligned). Further testing has been happening with and without materials on the Conveyor and with the testing proving successful the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers will now be installed along the whole length of the Conveyor between West Ruislip and the Treatment Area off Harvil Road.
Once the metal covers are installed, the testing phase will be complete and the Conveyor will begin operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week in line with the TBM operations.
The aim is now for the Main Conveyor to begin operating 24 hours a day from late next week (possibly from 27/07 – to be confirmed).
The Conveyor will transport the Spoil from the TBMs over The River Pinn and Breakspear Road South, and then across the Chiltern Line into the Treatment Works off Harvil Road for distribution onto the Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA). This will also lead to the end of the requirement for moving of Materials via lorry from the TBMs to storage areas within the HS2 Sites, and the phasing out of use of the Temporary Conveyor over the next few weeks.
New Footpath Surface Connecting The Greenway to The Celandine Route (near Breakspear Rd South/River Pinn)
There is now a newly Surfaced Footpath to connect The Greenway to The Celandine Route (near Breakspear Rd South/River Pinn) that has been completed by LBH Highways Contractors through Funding provided by the HS2 Local Amenity Fund.
There is also a connection from Hoylake Crescent to join up with the footpath
