HS2 Works Notification: Utility works at High Road and Ickenham Road

We wrote to you recently to let you know that we would be carrying out utility relocation works from 6 December 2021 to 28 May 2022, near West Ruislip train station. However, we need to reschedule these works which will now take place from 4 January 2022 to 28 May 2022.

These works are to prepare for the start of tunnelling in 2022.

During the first phase of these works, we will be clearing some vegetation and removing the central reservation which will help to facilitate the second phase of the works and maintain two-way traffic flow at all times. Estimated dates are 4 to 21 January 2022.

During the second phase, we will be carrying out the main utility works which includes excavation, installation and reinstatement of the gas mains and installation of water valves. Estimated dates 24 January to 30 April 2022.

In the final phase we will reinstate the central reservation and pedestrian crossing. Estimated dates 2 to 28 May 2022.

Please see below for more information about locations and the works we will be carrying out over the next few months.

In order to carry out these utility works safely:
– a footpath diversion will be in place including a temporary pedestrian crossing either side of the work area
– the cycle path will be closed for the duration of these works
– the West Ruislip bus Stop S and Stop M will be suspended and temporarily moved to a safe location.

Your utility services will not be affected.

You may notice periods of increased noise during these works. We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience this may cause. Every effort is being taken to keep disruption to a minimum.

Utility works at West Ruislip

From HS2

On the 29, 30 and 31 of December 2021, we will be carrying out steel fixing works on the tunnel portal area at our West Ruislip site.

These works will be done within our site boundary at 11 meters below ground level therefore, we do not anticipate any noise or disruption.

Steel fixing is the activity that takes place to create many of the steel support structures that are used in the construction of the railway, the work comprises a crane lifting materials into the excavation below ground and then operatives manually fixing these lengths of steel in place.

Every effort is being taken to ensure that these works are carried out in the least impactful way. We will ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. for more info

Thames Water/Soldier’s Return

Thames Water update
We are working to divert our sewer to make way for the new HS2 railway. Following the London Borough of Hillingdon’s planning approval with planning conditions, we have received sign off of some of the conditions. This means we can plan to build the entrance point of the temporary haul road off High Road, Ickenham.

New road entrance
Subject to approval from the London Borough of Hillingdon, we will carry out work from Monday 13 December until Friday 24 December. This will be to construct a new road entrance off High Road, next to the entrance of The Soldiers Return.

The footpath will remain open for the duration of our works.

The High Road will remain open at all times, but we will need to close half of the northern lane. Traffic management will be in place to keep the traffic flowing.

Future work
We will not be working over the Christmas period and the site will close from 24 December until 4 January 2022.

When we restart our work, we will continue to construct the temporary road from the new access point to the Ickenham Green allotments.

Breakspear Road South closure – update

Breakspear Road South will be closed at the Chiltern Line Bridge from 12.01am Friday 26/11/21 for eight days while Network Rail carries out emergency repairs due to two bridge strikes in the last week.

Two HGV lorries (large high-sided lorries) struck the side of the Chiltern Line Bridge, on 18/11/21 and again on 23/11/21. In the photos below, you will see visible damage to the underside of the bridge, including where brickwork has fallen onto the carriageway.

Unfortunately there have been an increased amount of reported cases of HGV vehicles striking this bridge, with the Police confirming 15 incidents during this year alone. As a result Hillingdon Officers and Network Rail have worked together to facilitate the closure of the Breakspear Road South after the latest incident. This collaborative working will benefit our residents as we are now aware of the closure in advance (something that did not happen previously), and can communicate and plan for the closure.

Officers have engaged with HS2 and its contractors to ensure there are no temporary traffic lights on the adjacent Harvil Road during this closure, and have instructed HS2 to make sure they take full advantage of this closure by bringing forward any planned works on Breakspear Road South while the closure is in place.

Officers have requested that a Road Safety Audit is carried out as a matter of urgency (and paid for by HS2) to look at the location of the traffic lights in place on this section of Breakspear Road South. The traffic lights have been installed by HS2 to facilitate the movement of HS2 vehicles exiting the HS2 Site located just to the north of the Bridge, and are planned to be in place until at least 2024.

Officers will continue to proactively explore all available options to eradicate these bridge strikes from happening, and will continue to work in collaboration with Network Rail and HS2 and their contractors to ensure the best possible outcomes for our residents should these incidents occur in the future
