Traffic lights near West Ruislip station

Ickenham Rd (West Ruislip Tube Station) – Emergency Affinity Water works

LBH were informed on Thur 23/11 that Affinity Water believe there is a water leak under Ickenham Rd near to the Tube Station that requires Emergency works to repair the leak. Overnight from Thur 23/11 (10pm) into Fri 24/11 (6am) Affinity Water closed off the Westbound Lane on Ickenham Rd and put temporary 4-Way Traffic Lights in place so they could excavate into the carriageway on the Tube Station side of the road to try and trace the leak.

The temporary Traffic Lights were removed by 6am on Fri 24/11 and traffic is flowing as normal but Affinity Water plan to return on Fri night 24/11 (from 10pm) and reinstate the carriageway overnight into Sat 25/11 using the same temporary 4-Way Traffic Lights. They hope to have completed the works by 6am on Sat 25/11 and then traffic flow should return to normal.

The leak now appears to have been traced to be on the Eastbound carriageway so Affinity Water will have to approach LBH to agree how they tackle the repair while causing as little disruption as possible. If the location of the leak is near to the Footway then a Narrow Lane Traffic Management setup may be utilised to maintain the flow of traffic but if the location is further into the carriageway then further temporary Traffic Lights might be required (with the works being carried out at night).

As always LBH Officers will try to mitigate the effects on the Road Network as best as possible to keep any impacts on traffic to a minimum.

A40 utility works update

from HS2
We are carrying out utilities works on the A40 to protect the main gas pipe below the A40 Western Avenue between Hanger Lane Gyratory and Gypsy Corner. We will be digging a number of trenches along the road to reach the depth of the main gas pipe. The existing metal gas pipe will be replaced with plastic.
Please note that these works were due to be completed on 17 November, but have now been extended to 10 December 2023. The reason for the extension is unexpected additional works.

Harvil Road restrictions

Just to update you that LBH has been in dialogue with HS2/SCS today that have informed us that the Water Samples they sent off to Affinity Water last week to get the new Water Main commissioned have been returned as failed.
This means that HS2/SCS has to flush through the new Water Main again and take new samples which must then be approved by Affinity Water prior to the new Main being commissioned.
In order to achieve this LBH has allowed HS2/SCS to install 3-Way Traffic Lights on the same section of road near the Dogs Trust that they had Traffic Lights in place recently to complete the Water Main between 30/10 and 12/11.
The 3-Way Traffic Lights will now be installed tomorrow Wed 15/11 at 9.30am and will be removed by 3.30pm tomorrow afternoon. They will then be installed again Thur 16/11 between 9.30am and 3.30pm and on Fri 17/11 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Wed 15/11 – Install Traffic Lights at 9.30am / Remove Traffic Lights at 3.30pm
Thur 16/11 – Install Traffic Lights at 9.30am / Remove Traffic Lights at 3.30pm
Fri 17/11 – Install Traffic Lights at 9.30am / Remove Traffic Lights at 3.30pm

While this is far from ideal, it means that for the Peak morning and afternoon periods the road will be fully open to traffic while allowing HS2/SCS to carry out its essential works Off-Peak during the day.
The Traffic Management Plan below shows the location of the Traffic Lights:

On 27 November 2023, survey works will be carried out at the Network railway bridge on Breakspear Road South.
We will investigate the condition of the sewer system using a CCTV camera mounted on a small robot. To carry out these works safely, a southbound lane closure will be in place overnight from 10pm to 5am.

Swakeleys/Harvil roundabout restrictions

Just to make you aware that due to an SSE issue with their Power Cables in the area an Emergency Permit has been raised today for works to rectify the fault under 3-Way Traffic Lights and a Lane Closure near the junction of Swakeleys Rd and Harvil Rd.

Temporary Traffic Lights Heads will be in the following locations (as marked in Yellow on the Map below):

•             1 Head on Harvil Rd near House Number 3

•             1 Head on Swakeleys Rd Eastbound

•             1 Head on Swakeleys Rd Westbound

LBH Highways Inspector has been at the Site to coordinate the Traffic Management and SSE have been warned to make sure that the works are expedited to keep the delays down to a minimum.

We hope these works will be completed within the next 48 hrs but the Emergency Permit is in place until 14/11 (worst case scenario).

This is likely to cause major traffic impacts along Swakeleys Rd and around the local area while these works are taking place, but LBH cannot refuse Emergency works without very good reason so they must be allowed to be completed.
