Tunnel Boring Machine kick-off next week
HS2 Works Notification: Preparing the Tunnel Boring Machine
We are writing to let you know about some planned works in your local area.
Recently, we told you about our works to build the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) at our West Ruislip site. We will use the TBMs to build the railway tunnels between West Ruislip and Greenpark Way in Ealing.
The TBMs have now been assembled and on Tuesday 30 or Wednesday 31 August 2022, one of them will be switched on and will cut up to one metre into the concrete wall ahead of it. This is preparatory work before we launch the TBMs.
Once launched, they will run 24 hours a day until they reach Greenpark Way. We will let you know the launch date as soon as it is confirmed.
We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience this may cause. Every effort is being taken to ensure that these works are carried out in the least impactful way.
We will ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.
What to expect
During this preparatory activity, there will be no soil extracted from the machine and the conveyor will not be operational.
We anticipate that any noise and vibration will be minimal given that the TBM is situated approximately 10 metres below the surrounding ground level. The expected duration of this activity is approximately one hour, during our core working hours of 8am to 6pm.
Members of our engagement team will be present on The Greenway between 10.00am and 12.00pm and again from 2.00pm to 4.00pm on the day to answer any questions that you may have.
We will only carry out activities agreed with the London Borough of Hillingdon and will adhere to the agreed working hours and noise and vibration limits. You may notice different types of noise during these works.
We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience this may cause. Every effort is being taken to ensure that these works are carried out in the least impactful way.https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/preparing-the-tunnel-boring-machine/

The overall scheme will be completed in three phases between late August 2022 and early September 2023, with the main construction work taking place within our construction site boundaries on Harvil Road.

West Ruislip works prolonged
From HS2
What we are doing
Extension of utility works on Ickenham Road
Further to our notification of 24 June we will be extending the utility works on Ickenham Road. We wanted to complete these works by 12 August, however, we will need to overrun until 2 September 2022, and the current traffic management will remain in place. Access to businesses will be maintained.
During the final phase of reinstating the central reservation the team have had to slow down for safety reasons and concrete works have had to be postponed to avoid material failure due to the extreme weather.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused by these works and for the extension to them. We are doing what we can to keep disruption to a minimum.
How these works might affect you
In order to carry out these utility works safely:
– a footpath diversion will be in place including a temporary pedestrian crossing either side of the work area
– the cycle path will be closed for the duration of these works
– the West Ruislip bus Stop M will be suspended and temporarily moved to a safe location.
– the West Ruislip bus Stop S will remain open at all times.
Your utility services will not be affected.

Night closures of A412
FROM HS2
A412 Closures August – October
As you may be aware, regrettably there is a need for us to close the A412 overnight for a substantial period to build the viaduct decking across the A412. We now have a finalised set of dates and times with Bucks Council.
We understand that this may inconvenience some residents, businesses and other road users in Harefield that use the A412 between Denham and Maple Cross in the early hours, but for their own safety we cannot allow road users to pass under the girder whilst works are underway.
The road will be closed overnight from 10pm and reopened at 6am the following morning, every day (Mondays to Sundays) from Friday 19 August. Works are scheduled to end, and the road reopen 24 hours a day from 25 October 2022.
