“Hillingdon Hoard” webinar

Archaeologists working in Hillingdon on the HS2 project have uncovered a fascinating rare set of Iron Age potins, an early version of the coin, dating back to the 1st century BC.

If you would like to find out more about this discovery, a free webinar on 19 July will explain all. You can register for it here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/festival-of-archaeology-hillingdons-hidden-history-tickets-157616668699

West Ruislip concrete breaking trials

From HS2:

At the West Ruislip site, we will be carrying out a 5-day trial of a machine that breaks down concrete into smaller reusable parts.

If this trial is successful, it will mean that the number of lorry movements required to transport concrete to and from site will be reduced and will remove a significant number of lorries from local roads.

Work item details

What we are doing
Over the coming months we will be carrying out enabling works in the Harvil Road area. These works will allow us to prepare the area which is required for the temporary storage and treatment of the soil that will be removed from the tunnels, before they are placed in their final location.

Our initial works will include:

  • Setting up security fencing and hoarding
  • Delivery of equipment for the removal of topsoil
  • Vegetation clearance, including brambles and hedgerows
  • Preparation works to secure and divert a section of the U49 footpath around the works area

Latest Ickenham Residents’ Association Newsletter

This from the IRA:

At long last we are able to print and deliver our latest newsletter

They should be with your road stewards early this week and with you shortly afterwards

We hope all our members get one dropping through their letterbox but just in case we will be leaving copies in the Library and, hopefully, in Maison du Soleil

This edition will NOT be available on our website.

We will not be collecting subs at the this time but hope to do so later in the year.

Thank you to our delivery team for their help and support

U46 Footpath Diversion

from HS2

The U46 footpath diversion

We are progressing to a stage in our works where we will be diverting a number of footpaths. These works will facilitate the completion of the internal haul road and help to keep as many vehicles off local roads as possible. Our first diversion is the U46 footpath, the short footpath that runs from the Celandine Way to Breakspear Road South near Oak Farm. The surface of U43 has been improved and extended and it currently progresses south behind the trees and emerges at a marked crossing point in Breakspear Road South. Please see map on link below.

September URC Jumble Sale

From URC:

We were overwhelmed by the response to our July sale, which raised over £590 despite only featuring plants and the quality books and the weather being rather Wimbledon.  It was lovely to see so many old friends again after a long gap and they seemed really happy to be back.  So, we’re going to do it again on Saturday 4th September [10am to 12 Noon, admission free] with a coffee morning and plant stall, lots more books [and stamps and postcards] plus bric-a-brac and toys and games.  If you have things to donate please bring them to the church on Friday 3rd September between 3pm and 7pm or ring Richard Piper on 01895 634348 for collection.  We could also do with some more helpers to join our happy team so if you think you could spare an hour or two please ring the same number for details.  Whether helping or visiting you will be supporting a range of worthwhile charities as well as the work of our church
