Conveyor and Footpath update

Main Conveyor Update

The Main Conveyor which will carry the Spoil from the 2 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to the Treatment Area off Harvil Road has recently been undergoing testing during Core Hours. The testing has been carried out without the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers that will insulate the Conveyor’s Mechanical Noise (in order to test that the Conveyor is running smoothly and is correctly aligned). Further testing has been happening with and without materials on the Conveyor and with the testing proving successful the protective ‘shrouding’ metal covers will now be installed along the whole length of the Conveyor between West Ruislip and the Treatment Area off Harvil Road.

Once the metal covers are installed, the testing phase will be complete and the Conveyor will begin operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week in line with the TBM operations.

The aim is now for the Main Conveyor to begin operating 24 hours a day from late next week (possibly from 27/07 – to be confirmed).

The Conveyor will transport the Spoil from the TBMs over The River Pinn and Breakspear Road South, and then across the Chiltern Line into the Treatment Works off Harvil Road for distribution onto the Southern Sustainable Placement Area (SSPA). This will also lead to the end of the requirement for moving of Materials via lorry from the TBMs to storage areas within the HS2 Sites, and the phasing out of use of the Temporary Conveyor over the next few weeks.

New Footpath Surface Connecting The Greenway to The Celandine Route (near Breakspear Rd South/River Pinn)

There is now a newly Surfaced Footpath to connect The Greenway to The Celandine Route (near Breakspear Rd South/River Pinn) that has been completed by LBH Highways Contractors through Funding provided by the HS2 Local Amenity Fund.

There is also a connection from Hoylake Crescent to join up with the footpath

A40 gas main work

notification from HS2

We will be carrying out works to protect the main gas pipe below the A40 Western Avenue between Hanger Lane Gyratory and Gypsy Corner. We will be digging a number of trenches along the road to reach the depth of the mains gas pipe.

These works will take place from 31 July until 22 October 2023.

To ensure the safety of the public and our staff, temporary changes will be in place on the A40 Western Avenue, these include:

• Removal of the central reservation
• Installation of a contraflow system on the East and Westbound Carriageway
• Bus stop and parking bay suspensions
• Closure of the Eastbound Carriageway overnight on 21 August

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and signed diversion routes for vehicles will be in place.

Viaduct-related traffic news

HS2 will be constructing the Colne Valley Viaduct over Moorhall Road during the Summer Holiday period this July and August, which means that there will be Temporary Traffic Lights, Night Time Road Closures and a 3-Week Full Road Closure (24 hours a day) on Moorhall Road over the coming weeks.

There will be a 3 Week Full Road Closure of Moorhall Road (either side of the HS2 Haul Road Crossing) between 28/07 and 18/08 while the Viaduct is built over Moorhall Road (shown in Red). There are also 4-Way Traffic Lights during the Day (in White), and Night Time Road Closures (in Orange) in the weeks either side of the Full Road Closure.

Unfortunately during the works there is no access to any vehicles including Emergency Services Vehicles (who have been notified of the Road Closure and the need to use alternative routes).

TfL have confirmed that the 331 will not run to Denham during this time but will be replaced by a Shuttle Service operated by HS2/Align that will run from Uxbridge Station through to Denham Train Station.

Route 331 will run from Uxbridge Station but rather than follow the normal route through Denham and Moorhall Road, Route 331 will run via Swakeleys Roundabout, Swakeleys Road, Harvil Road and then continue on the normal Route through Harefield, Northwood & onto Ruislip.

The Greenway works

Got an allotment or live in the Greenway. Did you get this letter from Thames Water?

Thank you

Dear Resident,

We have completed the sewer diversion

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carried out the diversion to our sewer to enable HS2’s construction.

We can confirm the diversion has been completed and we have now left the area. The haul road has been removed and the land has been reinstated with new trees and shrubs being planted. The reinstatement of the Ickenham Green Allotments has also been completed.

We will be returning to the area to water the grass on The Green and the saplings in the surrounding area on a regular basis. Barhale will be responsible to look after the area for 12 months and then Thames Water will take over for the next two years. After this time the land will be handed back to London Borough of Hillingdon.

Thank you again.

Kind Regards

Laura Edwards

New Years Green Lane works

from HS2

We’re writing to let you know about some planned works that we will be carrying out in your area.

On Sunday 18 June 2023, we will be carrying out inspection works to the conveyor over Newyears Green Lane.

Due to the location of these works, a road closure will be in place for one day to ensure these activities can be carried out safely.

Access will be maintained for residents, emergency services and businesses along Newyears Green Lane. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via Moorhall Road / A412 / A40.

For further information please see our works notification. https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/newyears-green-lane-closure-for-conveyor-maintenance/

Harvil Road plans

HS2/SCS have been in discussion with LBH Officers regarding the next Phase of works on Harvil Road that they hope to have completed by early July 2023 (prior to the major works on Moorhall Road for the Colne Valley Viaduct Crossing).

The 4 Week Full Road Closure has now been agreed with HS2/SCS, as this was seen as the best possible solution rather than facing a longer period of very disruptive Traffic Management under other proposals.

Please follow the link for the HS2 Communications regarding this Closure – For further information please see the works notification. https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/notice-of-harvil-road-closure/
The works being carried out during this Road Closure are the most disruptive remaining in the Realignment Programme, and once these works are completed, the remaining Phases of works in the Autumn should be carried out under temporary Traffic Lights before a final short Road Closure is required in order to transfer between the existing Road and the new Realigned Road.
LBH and HS2/SCS confirm the Full Road Closure will be from Mon 12/06 until Sun 09/07 in the section between the Dogs Trust and the Bridge by Skip Lane.

While the Road Closure is in place by the Dogs Trust, there will also be 4-Way Traffic Lights between HS2 Gate 1 and Skip Lane to allow Affinity Water and BT works near the Certas Oil Depot. Any other works that can be carried out by HS2/SCS while the Road Closure is in place will be encouraged, in order to maximise the amount of work undertaken during the Closure.

In Summary – This work will consist of 2 Parts; a Full Road Closure by the Dogs Trust, and 4-Way Traffic Lights between HS2 Gate 1 & Skip Lane junction.

Part 1:
o Mon 12/06 to Sun 09/07 – FULL ROAD CLOSURE
o Location – Dogs Trust to Skip Lane Bridge
o Utilities and Civils ties ins for new road
o Activities: Water Main installation, Diversion of existing Utilities, Highway & Drainage Construction, Existing Road Demolition, Resurfacing, Kerb Installations and Road Markings

Part 2
o Mon 12/06 for approx. 2 weeks – 4-Way Traffic Lights
o Location – HS2 Gate 1 to Skip Lane junction
o Affinity Water Hydrant works & BT works
