Breakspear Road South closure extended

This just in from HS2:

Road closure of Breakspear Road South

Further to our update of 6 July 2018, whilst carrying out work to divert the water pipeline, Affinity Water have encountered some unexpected services within the carriageway which has required deeper excavations. The consequence of this is a delay to completing the works. We therefore need to extend the works to Friday 17 August 2018 and the closure of Breakspear Road South will remain in place until this date. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.

Planned Euston shutdowns

We received the following notice from Virgin Trains:

We’re contacting you to let you know about some engineering works that will completely close London Euston on 18-19, 25-27 August and 1-2 September.

There will be no services to or from London Euston across these dates, so we recommend that you don’t attempt to travel from the station on these dates. If you need to travel on these dates and plan to use alternative routes, please plan your trip carefully, allow a bit longer to get to your destination and double-check your journey plans before you travel.

We’d hate for you to get stuck. Please visit virgintrains.co.uk.

Thanks,

The Virgin Trains Team

Residents’ feelings about HS2: Survey results

Earlier in the year, we ran a post here inviting you to share your feelings about and understanding of HS2. If you’re interested you can download/view the results here.

They are in two parts – first the survey and second the answers to question number 3: Please tell us any thoughts about the communication methods above. Also about any other ways you get your information about HS2.

The results may enlighten you, unless you’ve been following the HS2 saga closely, in which case they’ll probably confirm your perceptions.

HS2 – Amersham Action Group

This group recently linked to us. I’ve added it to our HS2 – The Basics web page and elevated the HS2 Basics link to the top of the ‘Background’ part of our main HS2 page (that’s the page that links to everything HS2).

If you don’t like navigating menus, you might prefer to use ‘Search this site’ (at the top right of each page) if you’re after something in particular.

Colne Valley Viaduct Design Survey

Colne Valley Viaduct Design feedback – deadline extended to complete our surveys

Reposted from HS2 in Hillingdon

Following the recent engagement event, residents have been asked for their feedback on the emerging designs of the Colne Valley Viaduct.

The deadline for feedback has now been extended to Monday 16 April.

To complete the survey please visit Colne Valley Viaduct section by clicking here

Paper copies of the survey are also available in Harefield, Ickenham and Ruislip libraries.

This Thursday: influence Colne Valley viaduct plans

March 22, 2pm to 8pm in ICKENHAM VILLAGE HALL

The Colne Valley is an important recreational area for local residents. It’s our ‘back garden’ The HS2 route runs through Ickenham, Harefield and then across the valley.

This Association with local groups, the London Borough of Hillingdon and local politicians campaigned for the ‘Ruislip’ tunnel to be extended to the Chiltern tunnel to save Ickenham, Harefield and the Colne Valley from both damaging construction activity and the environmental issues when the trains are running. The government refused.

A 3.9 km viaduct has to be built across the Colne Valley lakes and rivers. HS2 commissioned a design for this viaduct and ALIGN (a construction company) has been contracted to build the viaduct.

This event run by the ALIGN team is an opportunity for you to find out more about the emerging design of the Colne Valley Viaduct and landscapes at an early stage, as well as what it may mean for the local area.

We recommend go if you can; it’s an opportunity for local communities to input to the final designs.

The event will not cover HOAC plans or the construction plans for Ickenham and the Ruislip tunnel.  These will be covered at future events.

Breakspear Road South: Update

As you will have realised, the previous announcement from HS2 proved to be incorrect. We now have an update on the temporary traffic lights. Work starts on Monday 12th March.

The link is https://hs2inhillingdon.commonplace.is/news/2018/03/09/update-on-lane-closure-on-breakspear-road-south

This is at the heart of the message:

A northbound lane closure would be required during March on Breakspear Road South to enable the set-up of a construction compound. These works are set to commence on Monday 12th March for a period of up to three weeks. Two way traffic lights will be utilised to ensure that traffic flow is maintained in the area. The traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day but will be manually operated at peak times (07:00 – 10:00 and 15:00 – 18:00) to enable disruption to be minimised and alleviate pressure on the network.

HS2 activists seek to learn how well-informed you are

Ruislip Against HS2 (and others, including our own HS2 sub-committee) would be very interested in your views of various sources of information on developments, now and in the future. The survey also asks a couple of questions about your general awareness.

If you can spare a few moments to check a page of ten multiple boxes, it could help them frame a more effective approach to keeping our local communities informed.
