Colne Valley Park today

Brunel  University students, working with West London Film & Media CIC and Groundwork South, have put together a seven-minute video about the Colne Valley Park as it stands today, before it is cut through by the twin threats of HS2 and Heathrow’s third runway.

It’s a charming film of the pleasures on the doorstep of 10 million people. Perhaps it will inspire you to visit the attractions, support the cafés and other local businesses and perhaps get involved in some way with its associated charities.

Burns Night Bash

The Ickenham Festival Team will be holding its ever-popular “Burns Night” at Douay Martyrs School on Saturday 21st January 2017.

You can look forward to a live ceilidh band (The Larkrise Ranters), with a caller, a Piper, a haggis supper, dancing, and Burns poetry reading.  A great night out is promised for all.

Two chances to tackle HS2

HS2 is holding two ‘information-sharing events’ for Ickenham residents in October and November.

Here’s a summary:

HS2 has been trying to identify ways of reducing HGV traffic movements in the West Ruislip and Ickenham area, in particular, the peak two-way HGV movements from 1060 to a maximum of 550 per day at Swakeleys Roundabout.

Its report sets out its proposals, plus ways to significantly reduce sustainable placement of surplus excavated materials on land between Harvil Road and Breakspear Road South.

A couple of new ‘useful links’

While trying to find a decent pic of Ickenham Village Hall for our Twitter account and the header of this site, I found myself in contact with the Swakeleys Home Guard (1944) Association. Its members meet at the back of the Village Hall. I’ve added them to the Useful Links page, along with a lively Facebook group we mentioned recently called ‘Ickenham… it’s just the best village’.

You can alter the frequency and tweak other graph options. In the snapshot, the upper black line is the highest ever recorded (October 30th 2000) and the second line is the more recent highest (February 7th 2014). The lower black line is the lowest ever recorded (August 9th 2007).
