Christmas Concert URC 14 Dec

EASTCOTE CHOIR concert

Our Christmas Concert is on Saturday 14th December at 3.30 at Ickenham United Reformed Church, Swakeleys Road Ickenham, Middlesex UB10 8BE. We will be singing Geoffrey Bush’s “Christmas Cantata”, and there will be carols for choir and audience. Tea will follow in the church hall.
Tickets: £15, under 12s free, from a choir member or on the door, (where only cash can be taken).
We welcome new members. We rehearse on Tuesdays at 8.00 pm in Ruislip Methodist Church Hall, Ickenham Road, Ruislip. Go to our website for more details and to contact us.
Our Summer concert was a blast! We sang a very challenging work: Will Todd’s “Mass in Blue” but we pulled it off, thanks to hard work by choir members, a brilliant soprano soloist and a great jazz combo who pulled it all together. If you don’t know this work, have a listen to it on Youtube.

Flooding: LBH needs evidence

From Ickenham Residents.
we received this from I Thynne and were asked to circulate it I am writing to you as we are undertaking an investigation into the September floods and the next phase is to collect evidence.  The investigation is being carried out by the Council in its role as Lead Local Flood Authority.  below in bold is a letter setting out more details about the investigation.   Unfortunately, there were many properties that flooded or came close to flooding which we are trying to understand more about.  In particularly we are trying to understand the full scope of flooding and would therefore be grateful if you could share this with the residents you represent.     The investigation will consider the various causes of flooding and the roles of the relevant authorities, i.e. Thames Water, Environment Agency and Highways Authority.  The investigation will lead to a formal report being published around spring time next year.  This is likely to contain recommendations on how to reduce and manage flood risk better. The letter contains a link to the questionnaire where we will collect the information.  For ease of reference, I have included it below.  https://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/article/13655/September-flooding

Date: 3 December 2024
Ref: LBH/Flood/23Sept
Dear Occupier
On 23 September the borough experienced over one month’s worth of rain in a day. This led to
widespread flooding across roads and open spaces, and sadly within properties.
In our role as the Lead Local Flood Authority, we are carrying out an investigation into the flooding and seeking to understand more the extent and causes. In particular, we are keen to identify the sources of the flooding and determine what action was taken by key responders and when. We would also like to understand if there were any post flooding concerns relating to the recovery and clean up. This phase of the investigation is about collating the evidence to inform a subsequent report which will result in a series of recommendations with the aim of reducing the risk or impacts of flooding in the future.
We understand the suffering that flooding can cause for our residents and communities and
acknowledge that this doesn’t go away once the flood waters have receded. Our investigation is an important part of the response and will guide actions that will hopefully result in a reduction in the risk of flooding in the future. We therefore encourage as many people as possible to provide their experiences and evidence to ensure the investigation is comprehensive.
To assist with developing our understanding of the flooding, we have produced a questionnaire
which can be found on the following link https://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/flood-investigation. This
includes a series of questions that are intended to collect the required information and evidence
for the purpose of the more detailed investigation. We would appreciate it if you could complete the questionnaire by 12 January 2025.
The questionnaire also allows for photographs and videos to be uploaded to enable us to gather as much data and information as possible. At this stage, we don’t have full details of all those who experienced flooding, so we are writing specifically to a number of properties within areas where we have had multiple reports of flooding.
The questionnaire is open to anyone who would like to provide their experiences of flooding.

HS2 tunnelling updates

We expect Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Sushila to complete her tunnelling journey from West Ruislip to the Green Park Way Vent Shaft on 13 December. This milestone marks the completion of part of the tunnel construction of the new HS2 line linking Euston to Birmingham. We expect TBM Caroline to reach the Green Park Way site in March 2025.

Removal of the conveyor structure – 2 January to July 2025

We will begin dismantling and removing the conveyor structures by crane from within the West Ruislip Portal entrance from 2 January until July 2025.

From 2 January to 2 February 2025 we will work 24 hours, seven days a week. To avoid overnight disturbance, we will carry out metal cutting and concrete breaking works from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. We will place acoustic blankets fixed to Heras fencing around the concrete breaking area to reduce the noise.

We do not expect any additional noise because the conveyor, support operations and machinery movements carried out to run TBM Sushila’s downline tunnelling operations will have stopped. When TBM Caroline completes tunnelling, we will repeat the removal of the conveyor structures which have been supporting the upline tunnelling operations. We will update you regularly as the works progress from now until July 2025.

Construction will continue over the Christmas period on the cross passage at our ventilation shaft in Northolt, which will be supported by vehicle movements at the West Ruislip Portal

Concrete cutting and removal works within the tunnel – 27 to 31 December 2024

While TBM Caroline stops tunnelling over the Christmas break, we will remove the temporary concrete tunnel floor inside the entrance, install drainage and then replace with the permanent concrete tunnel floor.

These works will take place on 27, 28, 30 and 31 December between 8am and 6pm, and on 29 December between 10am to 5pm.

We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience this may cause. Every effort is being taken to ensure that these works are carried out in the least impactful way.
