HS2 Updates galore

HS2 Works Notification: Gas Main Diversion off Harvil Road and other works starting this week

We are continuing to work closely with our construction partners to review the works on our construction sites in line with Government and Public Health England (PHE) advice on dealing with COVID-19. The Government’s current COVID-19 strategy makes clear that construction activity should continue as long as it complies with this guidance.

The below works are going ahead as our contractors are confident that they can operate in line with PHE and industry guidance, protecting our staff and the communities in which they are working.

Gas Main Diversion off Harvil Road

Following a winter shutdown period, Cadent is returning to its former compound off Harvil Road to complete work on the gas main diversion that it started last year. Works start this week and we expect work to be completed by June 2020. You can read more in this notification here.

Ruislip Golf Course

Delivery of aggregate to site will start from Wednesday 15 April, during usual working hours (8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays)

Surveys of land within HS2 sites and site hoarding from Tuesday 14 April.

Dews Lane and Harvil Road area

We are maintaining a security presence at their sites on Dews Lane and Harvil Road area. To enable this to continue there will be occasional deliveries to the sites of fuel and sanitation equipment. Servicing of welfare facilities and emptying of cess tanks will also take place.

Update on Completion of Work at Ruislip Rugby Club

We wish to update you on the current position with regards to the fields at Ruislip Rugby Club. Whilst the investigatory works within the fields have finished, we faced particularly difficult conditions due to the amount of rain that fell throughout January and February, water-logging the soil.

While we used matting to protect the fields as much as we could, some ruts occurred due to the movement of the vehicles and indeed the removal of the matting itself. We had been waiting for the ground to dry out sufficiently so that we could flatten out the area to remove the ruts that were left, however due to COVID-19 we paused activities at this site.

We are continuing to work closely with our construction partners to review the works on our construction sites in line with Government and Public Health England (PHE) advice on dealing with COVID-19. Our contractor is keenly aware of the need to finish the work at the club and we do fully appreciate that at this time many families are using the fields as the venue for their daily exercise. Please be assured that as soon as we are able to do so safely, we will return to the club and return the fields to their former condition.

HS2 Drop-in at Library tomorrow (10th)

Event: Drop-in at Ickenham Library, Tuesday 10 March, 2pm to 5pm

Our regular HS2 drop-ins continue with a drop in tomorrow,10 March, at Ickenham Library from 2pm to 5pm. At our drop-ins you can speak to the local Community Engagement Manager along with engagement staff from the contractors.

The focus of this drop-in will be the main works contractor’s planned works for the area from Ruislip Golf Course to Breakspear Road South over 2020.

HS2 staff will also be available to answer any questions about the project or other works in Hillingdon.

As part of the railway’s construction we are continuing preparatory works within Hillingdon. U34 Footpath Closure

The U34 Public Right of Way is currently partially closed from Dews Lane to Harvil Road. This closure is being extended northwards to the junction with Bridleway 7 from 2nd March to June 2020.Signage will indicate the section of footpath that is closed and an alternative route will be available along Harvil Road and Bridleway 7 which is currently diverted across Harefield Moor. This is to ensure public safety during the works including works to modify access around Dews Lane.

Tree planting
Further tree planting will be undertaken at our site to the north of Dews Lane. This work is expected to be undertaken in the Spring.

Fencing work continues
Fencing works will continue on land in the vicinity of Dews Lane to secure the area for contractors to work in a safe manner. This will include areas of vegetation clearance, including some trees. Some of this work will require temporary stopping of traffic on Dews Lane under traffic control. These works will be ongoing until late May

Archaeological work continues
We have been carrying out works to get a better understanding of any significant archaeological remains which are in this area. Excavation of trial trenching is almost complete in some areas and mitigation works to protect areas of interest have commenced. This work is expected to continue until late May.

Breakspear Road South partial closure coming up

Affinity Water – Notice of utility work on Breakspear Road South

As part of HS2 preparatory works, Barhale, on behalf of Affinity Water, will remove a temporary entrance that was originally put in to allow access to the fields on Breakspear Road South. During the work there
will be a temporary lane closure of the north to south lane with traffic signals for three days.

We are providing shorter notice than usual as there is an opportunity to undertake this work during the school half term period, which will hopefully lessen the disruption the lane-closure may cause.

Works on Breakspear Road South

From 17 February work will begin on the removal of a temporary access and to reinstate it back to its former entrance.

The work will involve breaking up and removing the concrete access way, and the removal of temporary pipes. The existing ditch will be cleaned and prepared to maintain the ditch drainage system that is in place. Once the drainage work is complete the new entrance can be constructed.

Most of the work will be carried out from within the site with only the work adjoining Breakspear Road South having to be undertaken from the roadside. When working on the section of the entrance next to the road, two-way temporary traffic signals will be in place to control traffic and give protection to the workforce.

Once this is completed a new vehicle gate will be put in alongside a new pedestrian kissing gate, and new fencing will also be installed to complete the works and keep the field secure.

This work will be completed by 19 February 2020

HS2 feedback request closing soon

HS2 Design Engagement: Common Design Elements feedback survey closing soon

We would like to invite your feedback on the design of HS2’s Common Design Elements planned for the Phase One route between the West Midlands and London.

Further to our post on the 2nd January, there’s now just five days left to have your say. You can view the plans on the HS2 website and download an information booklet, before completing our quick online survey. The survey closes at 11pm on Thursday 30 January.

Common Design Elements are parts of the railway with a standardised appearance which will give it a recognisable look and make it more efficient to build. They include frequently used structures, such as bridge piers and parapets, as well as lineside noise barriers.

Since Parliament approved plans for the Phase One route in 2017, we’ve been developing the design of the new railway and now we need your views to help inform how we progress with the Common Design Elements.

Harvil Road closure coming up

LONDON BOROUGH OF HILLINGDON TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC (HARVIL ROAD, ICKENHAM) ORDER 2020 ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

1. Hillingdon Council gives notice that to enable telecoms work to be carried out by HS2 and to prevent the likelihood of danger to the public made this Order, which will temporarily close Harvil Road, Ickenham from Skip Lane to NewYears Green Lane.

2. Diversion route will be via Breakspear Road South, Breakspear Road North, High Street, Church Hill, Harvil Road and vice versa.

Nothing in the Order shall apply to prevent vehicular access to premises on or adjacent to the prohibited length of road insofar as access is reasonably practicable without interference with the said works.

3. The temporary restriction will be in operation between 19:00hrs on the 31st January 2020 to 06:00hrs, on the 3rd February 2020 and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002. Road users should assume that the closure has been put into effect only if traffic signs have been erected stating that the road has been closed and the diversion route, if necessary is in place.

4. The Order, which is proposed will come into operation on 31st January 2020, will continue in force for eighteen months or until work to which it relates is completed. However it is anticipated that the works will be completed within 3 days.

Harvil Road closure postponed

Weekend closure of Harvil Road, planned for 17 January to 20 January 2020 postponed

The planned weekend road closure on Harvil Road scheduled to take place between the 17 January and the 20 January 2020 have been postponed. You can read the notification sent to residents about these works, in this news update here.

These works will now take place later in 2020. We will notify residents ahead of the works once we have new dates. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused

Proposed changes to Vyners admissions policy

You may well already be aware of the proposed changes to Vyners School admissions policy for year 7 admissions in 2021. If not they can be found at

These will give precedence to those pupils attending Ryefield school who live within 2km of Vyners over local children who live nearest to the school.

We were not informed directly of these proposed changes;  we were informed by concerned parents as were those residents in roads closest to the school. This despite the following statement on the school website that

Vyners School’s Governing Body has supported the changes to the admissions criteria subject to consultation with stakeholders.

The consultation is for the attention of:

    • parents of children in the locality of Vyners School between the ages of two and eighteen;
    • other persons in the area who in the opinion of the admission authority have an interest in the proposed arrangements;
    • all other admission authorities within the local area;
    • the local authority;
    • any adjoining neighbouring local authorities.

Our schools representative has endeavoured to arrange a meeting with the head but has been informed that no meetings will take place till after the consultation finishes on 24th January.

We therefore feel, as an Association eligible under bullet point 2 above, that this consultation has not been properly undertaken.

We are very concerned about the impact this will have not only on those children who attend Breakspear,, Glebe and Hermitage (the 3 nearest schools) but also on the village community in the potential for increased traffic and pollution among other issues.

In addition to our concerns about the detrimental impact of the proposal on local people, following a detailed review of the national admissions code, the schools adjudicator annual reports and several adjudicator judgements, we believe that the Trust’s proposals may breach the code in at least three areas:

  • No rationale or justification for the criteria have been offered – impeding stakeholder’s ability to consider whether the criteria are reasonable and fair (as they must be)
  • No tie-breaker criteria (which must be included)
  • Failure to consult on the full criteria. The approach taken by the Trust of only consulting on one criteria means stakeholders are deprived of the opportunity to comment on the cumulative impacts of the criteria as a package and suggesting supplementary new criteria, or consequential changes to existing criteria.

With these potential breaches in mind, we call on the Trust to hold a further, legally compliant consultation.

We would urge that if you share our concerns you write accordingly to the school as below

Weekend closure of Harvil Road

HS2 Works Notification: Weekend closure of Harvil Road, 7pm 17 January to 6am 20 January 2020

A section of Harvil Road will close at 7pm on Friday 17 January and reopen at 6am on Monday 20 January.

We have rescheduled the hoarding installation works we originally informed you about at the end of July 2019, where we will install solid hoarding along our site on Harvil Road. We will remove a section of the existing metal fencing to the south of the Chiltern railway bridge and replace it with a solid white hoarding.

We need to remove some vegetation and trees along the verge in order to access the fencing to replace it. We will also be clearing all vegetation and trees between the section of Harvil Road south of the railway bridge and the Chiltern line railway as preparation for works to build a new section of Harvil Road.

A diversion will be in place along Breakspear Road South and Breakspear Road North
